Why are Saskatchewan’s police not under the province’s FOIP act?

REGINA — During his 10 years as Saskatchewan’s privacy commissioner, Gary Dickson’s office closed more than 1,300 files and completed 95 reports.

But it’s his recommendation that municipal police be legislated under the province’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) act, that has gone unanswered. Although the fact that municipal police don’t have to adhere to information requests is a concern Dickson made known to the province for a decade, he has no idea why it has never been followed up on.
