Watching too much television can change the structure of a child’s brain in a damaging way, according to a new study.
Researchers found that the more time a child spent viewing TV, the more profound the brain alterations appeared to be. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2537240/Children-watch-TV-damaged-brain-structures.html
Researchers in Japan looked at 276 children aged five to 18 who watched up to four hours of TV a day.
MRI scans showed those who spent most time in front of the box had more brain cells round the frontopolar area. But, rather like obesity, this is a bad thing and is linked to lower intelligence. http://www.express.co.uk/news/health/453273/Proof-too-much-TV-harms-kids-brains
The researchers said children with higher IQs showed “thinning” in this area. http://www.business-standard.com/article/news-ani/watching-too-much-tv-can-damage-kids-brains-114011100226_1.html
